About Our Honey
At Anghaa’s, we pride ourselves on our meticulous honey processing methods. From uncapping to bottling, our honey is hand-processed, gravity-strained, and unheated, preserving its natural aroma, nutritional value, and fine taste. The result is pure, 100% natural honey for you to enjoy.
How is honey made?
Bees collect nectar from flowers and carry it back to the hive in their honey stomachs. During this journey, enzymes in the bee’s stomach transform the nectar into honey. Once inside the hive, the honey is dehydrated to about 17% water and then capped with pure beeswax, ready to be used as food.
How is it processed?
Raw honey is described as honey “as it exists in the beehive.” It is obtained by extraction, settling, or straining, without being heated. While heating makes honey easier to process, it strips away its natural benefits. Therefore, it is crucial that raw and organic honey are not overheated.
We strain raw honey to remove bits of beeswax and hive parts, giving it a more liquid consistency while retaining its nutritional value.
Benefits
Raw honey is highly beneficial due to its nutritional profile. It becomes alkaline in the digestive system, helping to counteract acid indigestion, and has a lower glycemic index than table sugar, making it a healthier sweetener.
Raw and organic honey are thick and opaque compared to the transparent, mass-produced honey found in supermarkets. This cloudy yellow color is a sign of purity, as the honey has not been heated.
Honey is rich in vitamins such as Vitamin C, B6, and thiamin, and minerals like calcium, iron, and copper. It is also packed with antioxidants and has antibacterial properties.
Crystallization
Many consumers mistakenly believe that crystallized honey is spoiled or adulterated. In reality, crystallization is a natural and spontaneous process that occurs in pure, raw, and unheated honey. It affects only the texture and color, not the quality or flavor.
Crystallized honey is often preferred for its spreadable consistency. The crystallization process can vary, with some honeys forming fine crystals and others larger, grittier ones. Rapid crystallization tends to produce a finer texture and a lighter color due to the formation of glucose crystals, which are naturally pure white.
How to check for honey adulteration
While visual observation and taste are not reliable methods to ascertain the purity of honey, here are a few simple tests you can do at home:
- Water Test: Drop honey in a glass of water. Pure honey will settle at the bottom without mixing with the water until stirred. If the water becomes colored or the honey dissolves, it may be adulterated.
- Torch Test: Place honey on a cotton swab and torch it. Pure honey will make the cotton burn until the end.
- Chemical Test: Heat 10 grams of honey with sodium bisulphite and barium. The formation of barium sulphate precipitate indicates the presence of jaggery or crude sugar.
By highlighting our commitment to purity and sustainable practices, we aim to offer you the best natural products while preserving the environment and supporting local communities. Enjoy the wholesome goodness of Anghaa Utpad products, knowing they are made with care and integrity.
